DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM
This is your one stop shop for everything that is "YUM" in Hoover City Schools!
The objective of the Hoover City Schools Child Nutrition Program is to provide nutritious breakfasts, lunches
and snacks to all students in accordance with guidelines provided by the United States Department
of Agriculture School Nutrition Program. We are committed to providing a variety of healthy choices daily
that are student “favorites” and meet these guidelines. Not only do we take care in providing meal choices
that offer nutritional balance, but you can also be assured that food safety practices are a part of our
everyday lives in the school nutrition program. All of our managers and assistant managers are ServSafe

The meal described above is a possible sack lunch that is comparable to the grab & go deli sandwich we offer at every school.
The component prices shown, collected from a Hoover grocer in July 2009, include sales tax and are representative
of the food cost families incur to provide a comparable meal to what every Hoover City School offers. Other
typical pre-made sack lunches (i.e. Lunchables) run between $2.60-$3.50 each, and are much less nutritious than school lunch.
School meals are not only more affordable (on average, $1.00/day/student cheaper than a full 5-component sack lunch),
but they offer more nutritious variety, are convenient for students and parents, are made in a
sanitary environment and conform to strict temperature guidelines set by the National Sanitation Foundation.
You just can't beat eating at school!
