OUR MISSION

Provide students with the best possible nutrients under the best possible health & safety conditions, in the most pleasant, relaxing atmosphere possible. 

We aim to nurture the physical and scholastic development of our students by providing high quality, nutritious meals and to motivate healthy food choices by offering nutrition education.

Healthier US School Challenge

Bluff Park Elementary School was the first school in Alabama to be awarded the Gold Level Team Nutrition School in the Healthier US School Challenge from the United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service on April 16, 2008. 

 Attributes of the Healthier US School Challenge are: 

  • Enrolled as a Team Nutrition School
  • Demonstrates healthy menu planning practices and principles of the Dieatry Guidelines for Americans
  • Provide Nutrition Education to students and the opportunity for physical education
  • Maintain an average of at least 70% complete lunch participation
  • Adheres to guidelines established by the Food and Nutrition Service for foods serveda nd sold in school outside of the National School Lunch Program

 

  

Founded in 2005 by the American Heart Association and William J. Clinton Foundation, the Alliance for a Healthier Generation is leading the charge against the childhood obesity epidemic by engaging directly with industry leaders, educators, parents, healthcare professionals and - most importantly - kids.  The goal of the Alliance is to reduce the nationwide prevalence of childhood obesity by 2015 and to inspire young people to develop lifelong health habits.

There are 13 Hoover City Schools participating in the Healthy Schools Program.

The following schools received the Bronze National Recognition Award at the Healthy Schools Program Forum in New York City June 2010:

  • Robert F. Bumpus Middle School
  • South Shades Crest Elementary School
  • Riverchase Elementary School

 Jackie has worked for Hoover City Schools for 20 years.  She has been the CNP Manager for Rocky Ridge, Trace Crossings, Berry Middle, and Spain Park High School Cafeterias.  She divides her time as Manager and Program Specialist for the CNP department.  Jackie is also currently serving as the President of the Alabama School Nutrition Association.  Jackie, an avid Elvis fan, loves to spend time with her family and dogs.

Farm to School connects schools (k-12) and local farms with the objectives of serving healthy meals in school cafeterias, improving student nutrition, providing agriculture, health and nutrition opportunities, and supporting local and regional farmers.
