Fourth and fifth grade students perform on soprano recorders to further establish musical concepts and to introduce band instruments. Recorders are available for purchase at registration and from Dr. Womack for $7.00. We use Yamaha soprano recorders, which are available in green, blue, pink, and ivory.

Fourth graders begin recorder instruction after the Veterans Day program and will focus on reading notation, breath control, fingering technique, and ensemble playing.

Fifth graders continue their recorder instruction by learning new notes and performing more complex arrangements with accompaniments on barred instruments and unpitched percussion instruments. Recorders are utilized in music class from the beginning of the school year until the winter holidays, when we begin guitar instruction.
