What time does school start / end?   

Classes begin promptly at 7:45 am and dismissal is at 2:45 pm

What do I need to register my child? 

You will need: (1) recorded warranty deed or signed lease agreement (2) Original Birth Certificate for student enrolling (3) Original Social Security card for student enrolling (4) Alabama Blue Immunization form.

How do I get an Alabama Blue Immunization form? 

Take your current out of state / country immunizations to a local doctor’s office or the nearest Health Department.  They will transfer your current record onto the Alabama Blue form.

Where is the nearest Health Department? 

A Shelby County health department is located in Pelham just off I-65 South.  Take Exit # 242 (Pelham exit – Shelby County Hwy 52) Turn left at the end of the exit ramp and cross the interstate.  Turn left on to Shelby County Road 35 and go about 1 block and turn right into the parking lot… DMV is also located there.

What if my child was not born in the US? 

A current passport will take the place of a birth certificate in cases where the child was not born in the United States.

What if my child does not have a social security card? 

If you do not have a copy of your child’s social security card you may present a receipt with the child’s name and social security number from the Social Security Office or bring a copy of your tax return with your child listed as a dependent that shows his/her social security card. If you are unable to obtain a social security card please advise us at the time of registration. 

May I have lunch with my child during his/her lunch period? 

Yes.  Parents are always welcome to have lunch with their child during their regularly scheduled lunch period.  We do ask, however, that you sign in at the front office and pick up a LUNCH VISITOR pass and meet your child in the cafeteria and leave them in the cafeteria.  We ask that you not go to the classroom unless the teacher has specifically asked you to do so.  Remember we are very protective of our instructional time.  This is not a good time for conferences.

What is the best way to make an appointment with my child’s teacher? 

Please send a note to your child’s teacher or call the school and leave a message for the teacher to call you to set up an appointment for a conference.  Drop in conferences are very difficult – please consider the teacher has other students and very limited instructional time.  (Once our email is up and running) Email is another convenient way of reaching your child’s teacher. Email addresses are usually (but not limited to) the teachers first initial, last name followed by @hoover.k12.al.us.

Is there a Daycare facility at Riverchase Elementary? 

Yes.  Any questions should be addressed to their main office – Hoover Community School -- 439-2860.  We do have registration cards for the extended day program here.  Extended day is from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm.

Where do I direct questions about my child’s bus? 

Bus routes are posted in the front hallway of our lobby.  Any specific questions about the route and/or bus stops must be directed to the Transportation department at 439-1120.

What if my child needs to go home an alternate way? 

For the safety of your child, we ask that you not make any transportation changes during the day. However, we do understand that situations arise that require your child to go home an alternate way.  Please call the school by 2:00 with those changes.  We ask that if a change has to be made at any time that you please send a note to the teacher telling her of the change…(9/14/04  Dear Mrs. Smith, Johnny will not be a walker today.  He will be picked up in carpool today only.  Mrs. Johnny’s Mother) Please remember that students are NOT allowed to ride buses that are not assigned to them.
