Academic Opportunities
Procedures
Spain Park High School has academic opportunities (AO) built into our schedule 4 days a week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On Monday, Tuesday and Friday AO is 9:10 – 9:40 a.m.; on Thursday AO is 1:40 – 2:00 p.m. This is a time designated strictly for academics. Students are assigned to an AO teacher that functions like a homeroom. Students should use this time to work on homework or other academic activities, however, if students need additional help from their teachers, they can:
1. Between 8:00 and 8:15 – go sign out a pass from the teacher they want to see during AO.
2. Go to their assigned AO as the designated time.
3. Sign out of their assigned AO Teacher’s log, stating where they are going
4. When the bell rings, proceed to the teacher’s room for assistance.
5. Leave the AO pass.
Example: On Tuesday, John needs to see his math teacher, Mrs. Jones for AO. He is assigned to Mr. Smith for AO. At 8:10, John goes to Mrs. Jones and signs out an AO pass. After 1st period, John goes to Mr. Smith and signs his log putting his name and Mrs. Jones name. The AO bell rings and John departs Mr. Smith’s classroom and arrives at Mrs. Jones classroom. John return’s the AO pass to Mrs. Jones and receives help. Students can also receive peer tutoring or make-up tests and quizzes during this time.
