AL H.S. Graduation Exam

Alabama High School Graduation Exam (AHSGE)

In order to obtain a high school diploma in Alabama, each student must pass the AHSGE.  This exam is given in September, December, March and July.  There are five sections of the exam: Reading, Language, Mathematics, Biology /Science, and Social Studies.  Students are eligible to take certain sections of the ASHGE based on when certain courses are successfully completed.  For example, students are eligible for the Math portion after successfully completing Algebra 1.  Counselors notify students when they are eligible to test.  Students are given opportunities to re-take the exam if necessary based on state guidelines.  Also, students will receive exam remediation in order to improve their chances for success.

Remediation/Tutoring Assistance

     1.    As required by law, seniors are placed a in remediation course during their school day.   Based on individual needs, some 11th grade students also receive these services.

     2.    Two weeks prior to the testing dates, additional tutoring services are offered either before or after school.  These sessions are free to students and do not require students to sign up.

     3.    Students can also access remediation on the USA TestPrep website.  Instructions of how to log-in are available below or from your child’s counselor.

     4.    Students can borrow Enrichment Plus workbooks from their guidance counselor.
